Online Peer Skills Group

Staying consistent with your skills is the key to maintaining the progress you've made.  Our fortnightly online sessions allow you to commit to DBT without it getting in the way of your established routine. It follows the familiar structure of standard DBT group sessions, to provide a focused, one-hour 'refresh' to help you stay on top of your toolkit and keep your 'Life Worth Living' goals in sight.

The Session Outline:

  • Mindfulness (5 mins): A brief practice to ground the group and transition into Wise Mind.

  • Catch-Up & Goal Setting (20 mins): A dedicated space to review your week and set a clear, actionable intention for the fortnight ahead.

  • Skill Spotlight (30 mins): A deep dive into a specific skill, focusing on how to apply it to your current real-world challenges.

  • Review & Close (5 mins): A quick wrap-up to ensure you leave the session feeling capable and prepared.

The online format of this group allows you to access support from wherever you are!

What we offer

In-Person Peer Support Group

We know that committing to weekly, in-person sessions can be unrealistic once you’ve moved on from intensive treatment-DBT takes a significant amount of time and energy! However, we also know that solely virtual groups can sometimes feel disconnected. One of the most powerful parts of DBT is the community it builds.

The Monthly Meet-Up is a dialectical solution: a balance for those who crave the connection of an in-person group but need the flexibility to balance it with life’s other commitments.

To ensure the Circle is accessible to everyone, we alternate our meeting locations each month between North, South, East, and West Hertfordshire. Whether you’re joining us online or travelling to a local meet-up, there is always a space for you to stay connected and keep your skills sharp

DBT Graduates Groupchat

While our sessions provide the structure, the Graduate Circle Group Chat is where you can have support to apply them to your life.  This is an informal, 24/7 space for peer-to-peer connection-designed to be a supportive hub for those moments when you need a quick skills reminder or a bit of encouragement from people who truly get it.

What the Group Chat provides:

  • Real-Time Troubleshooting: A space to ask, 'I’m feeling X, what skill should I try?' and get immediate ideas from the Circle.

  • Daily Skills Prompts: Low-pressure reminders to stay mindful and effective throughout your week.

  • Peer Encouragement: Celebrating the small wins that others might not notice, but we know take a lot of work.

  • Community Connection: Reducing the isolation that can follow discharge by staying linked to a community that speaks your language.

A Boundaried Space: To ensure this remains a healthy environment for everyone, the chat is strictly for skills coaching and encouragement. We have clear terms and conditions-including a zero-tolerance policy for discussing high-risk content-to keep the focus on building our lives worth living, safely and effectively.

My Story

My in-depth story can be found on the 'About Me' page, but if you don't want to read it all.

Hi! I'm Isabeau (my friends call me Tilly), I'm 18 years old and an aspiring mental health nurse.

I spent my teenage years battling mental illness and fighting a broken system, and hit a particularly rough patch in September 2024, which led to me being referred to the Hertfordshire CAMHS DBT Team which, little did I know back then, changed my entire reality. I then spent almost 2 years under this team, going from a suicidal, impulsive, and traumatised teenager, being told I, and I quote "had a career as a mental health patient"  (yes - real words from a crisis worker on the phone!) - to being 1 year free from all self harming behaviours, working towards going to university to become a Pediatric and Mental Health Nurse, able to go on holiday and do things which once frightened me -  and I am now the happiest I have ever been.

After fighting to save  my own life (with, of course, the immense help from my amazing DBT therapist and team), I faced a new challenge:

Discharge from mental health services.

Who was I if I was no longer unwell? How would I keep my skills up and continue to build my life worth living without intense help? I had once spent 2, sometimes even 3, times a week at CAMHS and now...nothing? I didn't need to go to adult services, I had the skills and I knew what to do, I was just terrified to do it!

That's when my DBT therapist suggested to create a graduate group! I had an obsession with DBT, had read every book, bought every resource, researched every clinical trial and wanted to be a DBT Therapist one day.

So 'The Hertfordshire DBT Graduate Circle' was born! A way to help other people who have graduated DBT and want to keep implementing it into their day to day lives, and navigate life without mental health services.

I am NOT a professional, just a girl with a LOT of lived experience and passion about DBT. I hope you can find it helpful :)

Is the Graduate Group right for me?

The Graduate Group was created for those who have completed a formal DBT Skills Training programme, have 'graduated' from DBT and perhaps mental health services altogether, and wish to continue building their confidence and understanding of skills.

However, the Graduate Group is also for people who are interested in DBT, haven't completed a programme but are looking for support after leaving services. It's a safe space to meet like minded people all going through the same thing. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
